The artist wants to capture the uneasy juxtaposition of beauty and impending disaster, as dark, smoky waves appear to swell across the sky, hinting at the floods and rising waters that loom ever closer.

From this vantage point on the Staten Island Ferry, a vessel that symbolizes movement and connection, we glimpse both a cherished symbol and a warning. The waters around her, calm for now, could one day rise beyond control, flooding not only the shores of New York but also the ideals that this monument represents.

This isn’t just about a statue—it’s about a future where places of significance, culture, and life itself may be eroded by the forces we’ve set in motion. Will the tide of inaction drown out our chance to preserve these legacies, or can we turn the tide in time? This image urges the viewer to reflect: that liberty isn’t just about freedom from oppression; it’s also about freedom from a future we can still avoid. Will we let her stand, or will we watch her slowly sink?
